Foresight Taiwan
The term "foresight" was introduced in the UK around 1993 to mean a forward look at science and technology in order to obtain a "challenging view of the future"and an "effective strategy now."Since its introduction, foresight projects have been undertaken around the world and used to support S&T planning and policy formulation in many ways. At a minimum, foresight studies have been the basis of influential white papers and served as an important reference in planning processes. At the other extreme, recommendations from foresight studies have been incorporated into legislation and become mandates for public and private actions.

Although the term "foresight"is less frequently used in the United States , a Committee of the U.S. National Academies, headed by Norman Augustine, conducted a similar study recently. The resulting report "Rising above the Gathering Storm"(National Academy Press, 2006) has enjoyed wide influence. Many of its recommendations have enjoyed legislative support and are now part of the budget and policies of the current U.S. administration.
